The Elements of Stockholm

August 27, 2014

Wow. It has been a whirlwind last four or so days. Sweden is officially one of the most amazing countries in the world. I have so much to write about from our time there, but it has been a crazy last few days, so I will need to get all caught up through a few different posts 🙂

Anyway, on to Stockholm.

Dennis and I spent a day and a half galavanting around Stockholm. It is one of the coolest cities that we have been to on our trip [I hesitate to say that “aloud” though, as we have quickly found out that there is a rivalry between Stockholm and Gothenburg, where my family lives!].

Regardless, I hope the fam forgives me for saying it, but Stockholm is super awesome.

It reminded me of Chicago in a way, because of the canals through the city and being on the water. However, the buildings look completely different. The only tall buildings have giant spears at the top [I’m obviously not an architect, so I have no clue what they are actually called]. It is just incredibly beautiful, and you can tell just by walking through it there is rich history.

We walked and walked and walked the city. My nikes are now paper thin on the bottom and Dennis’ beloved Vans completely ripped all along the seams [they were horrible and disgusting…not only ripped, but they looked like acid washed jeans, they were so discolored]. I can’t lie, he was a little sentimental when I made him throw those things out 🙂

We walked pretty much the entire city, seeing all of the little islands, Old Town and everything in-between.

Our first day there, the weather was PERFECT. It was the kind of weather that my pops-in-law Kevin would call us about [when we were in MN in the dead of the frozen winter and he in sunny SoCal] and he would always say, “Yep, it’s a beautiful sunny day here, 76 degrees, clear blue skies…” 🙂 Gotta love it.

Our second day there, the weather didn’t know what it wanted to do that day. It was perfectly sunny, then the clouds would roll in and it would be cold, then it was hurricane winds, then before we knew it, it was pouring rain.

Honestly, I have never experience the kind of wind we encountered while in Stockholm.

While Dennis’ bouncy fro-curls remained perfectly intact, I was worrying about losing my sight from my hair whipping me in the eye so many times.

Even though the elements of rain and wind got the best of my mane, I obviously still really enjoyed our time in Stockholm [even though Dennis’ face below may signify otherwise].

You can’t help but find joy while being in such a beautiful city. It is definitely on my list to go to again sometime in the future!
